Dan &
Kathryn have bought a new boat!
Loose Pointer (was named Peaceful Warrior) is a
Kelly-Peterson 44.
Much as we love our Tayana 37, Tricia Jean, she is just not
enough boat now that Adam is part of our lives.
Unlike Tricia Jean, Loose Pointer has two private
cabins, one in the very front of the boat (for Adam) and one in the very back
of the boat (for Kathryn & Dan).
The boat was purchased in Long Beach and my friend, Jeff
& I have finally moved it up to Marina Bay Slip E-243 in Richmond. We wish we could have put her at the San
Pablo Bay Yacht Club where we are members, but there just was not room. She wouldn’t fit into Tricia Jean’s slip
because she is a foot wider.
We had a few adventures on the delivery, nothing serious,
just the normal issues that occur when a boat has been sitting for a few years
then suddenly used hard (broken jib halyard, dead starter, stopped up toilet,
etc.). After bringing her up the coast,
I’ve got to say that Loose Pointer is a really comfortable boat. The cockpit is a real dream. Kicking back in the bean bag chairs with
great visibility and wrapped up in a sleeping bag during the night watches to
ward off the chill, the hardest part about the delivery was staying awake. The new chart plotter/AIS/radar unit we installed
really showed its value. By showing us
all that information, it was just so easy to pick up the microphone and hail
the other ships:
“Trinity, Trinity, Trinity, this is Loose Pointer on channel
one six. I have us crossing starboard to
starboard, do you confirm?”
We’ve ordered the new main from Neil Pryde. They made the main for us for Tricia Jean and
we were very pleased with it so went with them again.
We’ve also purchased a scuba compressor
that will fit into the storage box on the stern quite nicely.
We haven’t ordered the new standing rigging yet, bat will as
soon as a bid we are waiting on comes in.
